Nasdaq Selects Applied Materials to Trade On the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong; Applied Materials Named as One of First Seven Stocks to be Traded in Pilot Program

HONG KONG--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 31, 2000--Applied Materials, Inc. (Nasdaq:AMAT), the world's largest supplier of semiconductor manufacturing equipment to the global semiconductor industry, today announced that its stock began trading on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (SEHK) as one of the first Nasdaq Stock Market (Nasdaq(R)) companies in a new pilot program.

This program between Nasdaq and the SEHK will offer shares of seven leading Nasdaq-listed companies: Applied Materials; Amgen Inc.; Cisco, Inc.; Dell Computer Corp.; Intel Corp.; Microsoft Corp.; and Starbucks Coffee Company.

According to Nasdaq, this pilot program in Hong Kong is a step forward in the development of a 24-hour global trading system for some of the world's leading stocks. The program is intended to allow investors throughout Asia to more easily access the shares of companies such as Applied Materials, which will be quoted and traded during regular SEHK trading hours in Hong Kong Dollars through SEHK's automatic order matching and execution system. Applied Materials' stock code on the SEHK is 4336.
