Applied Materials Names Xilinx Chairman, President and CEO Willem P. Roelandts to Board of Directors
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 26, 2004--Applied Materials, Inc. announced today that Willem P. Roelandts, the president and chief executive officer of Xilinx, Inc. and chairman of Xilinx's board of directors, has been appointed to serve as a new member of Applied Materials' board of directors. Roelandts' appointment is effective immediately.
Roelandts heads Xilinx, the fourth largest supplier of custom logic chips in the world and the number one supplier of programmable logic chips, one of the fastest growing segments of the semiconductor industry.

Prior to joining Xilinx in 1996, Roelandts held several executive positions during a 29-year career at Hewlett-Packard Company, where he served most recently as senior vice president and general manager of Computer Systems Organizations and was responsible for all aspects of Hewlett-Packard's worldwide computer systems business, including research and development, manufacturing, marketing, professional services and sales.
Active in industry affairs, Roelandts serves on the board of directors of the Semiconductor Industry Association and the Technology Network and as chairman of the Fabless Semiconductor Association.
