Applied Materials Names Hans Stork as Chief Technology Officer of its Silicon Systems Group
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 25, 2007--Applied Materials, Inc. announced today that it has named Dr. Hans Stork as chief technology officer (CTO) and group vice president of its Silicon Systems Group (SSG), effective today. Dr. Stork, most recently CTO and senior vice president of Silicon Technology Development at Texas Instruments Incorporated, is a recognized leader in the semiconductor industry and will be responsible for the development of Applied's technology innovations in semiconductor equipment.

Dr. Stork will lead the roadmap for Applied Materials' silicon technology equipment, oversee integrated technology development across the silicon products, and coordinate SSG's industry and university engagements. In collaboration with the business units that comprise SSG, his organization will focus on increasing the value to Applied's customers by leveraging its understanding of technology interactions to optimize differentiated product solutions.

Dr. Stork brings 25 years of experience in the industry, including service in several technology advisory positions. He was named an IEEE Fellow in 1994 and has served on the Semiconductor Research Corporation Board of Directors since 1999 and the International Sematech Board since 2002. After receiving his doctorate degree at Stanford University, he joined IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center in 1982 and led efforts on advanced silicon germanium bipolar technology research, development and its transition into manufacturing. Prior to joining Texas Instruments, Dr. Stork was director of the Internet Systems and Storage Lab at Hewlett-Packard in California.
