Jim Morgan, a global visionary and Taiwan market pioneer among leading U.S. business executives, will join Morris Chang, chairman and CEO of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) and other speakers to address "Challenges and Opportunities for Semiconductor Equipment Suppliers in the Next Millennium" at the Semiconductor Industry Summit Symposium.
Chief executive officer of Applied Materials since 1977 and
chairman of the board since 1987, Morgan is the recipient of the 1996
National Medal of Technology, awarded by the President of the United
States to technological innovators who have made lasting contributions
to America's competitiveness and standard of living.
From 1996 to 1997, Morgan served on the Commission on United
States-Pacific Trade and Investment Policy, which advised President
Clinton and Congress on improving trade relationships in the
Asia-Pacific region. He serves as a board member of the National
Center for APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation), and as a member
of the Chairman's Circle of the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC).
In 1995, Morgan was named "International Citizen of the Year" by the
World Forum of Silicon Valley.
